Short Term Loans for Child Education (SHE Program- Support for Higher Education
Nandri strongly believes that empowerment is always possible only through education. Education is the key to uplift the disadvantaged community from the clutches of poverty trap. Child Education Support programme enables the impoverished Dalit and backward class families to provide higher education for their children.
The problem faced by the children was so pathetic. The government of Tamil Nadu region has set an example in India in introducing some innovative schemes to promote the education of the state. Hence with the support of the government, the child can complete their secondary level of education with minimum support from the family.
Problem arises once they complete their secondary level of education and aspiring for third levelof higher education. The exorbitant college fees,which would be ranching between Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 50,000, depending on the type of third level Higher Education course. In addition to that, as most of our children live in small remote villages they also need to go to college in bigger cities and pay accommodation fees and travel costs. Usually bank loans are not generally available to Dalit families, since they cannot produce any sureties to the banks.
This situation makes the life miserable. Until Nandri introduced this third level Higher education programme in 2013 many children have left education at 12th grade They ended up in menial jobs and were exposed to various type of exploitation.After the introduction of SHE program in 2013 and it has resulted in twice the number of students going to college.
This educational support is given in the form of loan, which will be repaid by the parents through easy instalments without taxing the family. This educational loan is very helpful to the children to build their carrier and it encourages and motivates the parents also.
